Ambassador Gui said in his speech that China and Sweden are traditionally friendly countries. The bilateral relations are standing at a new historical start and facing broad prospects for development. Therefore, the Belt and Road Nordic Spring International Peace and Cultural Festival on Stockholm Culture Night has great significance. The participation of Chinese cultural elements not only made the Stockholm Culture Night more colourful and splendid but also injected positive energy into the development of China-Sweden relations.

He also said that the Belt and Road Initiative, proposed by China based on the principle of extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits, is committed to promoting friendly exchanges and expanding comprehensive cooperation with other countries in the world. People-to-people connectivity is one of the five major areas of cooperation in the Belt and Road Initiative. People-to-people friendly communication and state-to-state cultural exchanges are the most important measure to promote people-to-people connectivity, and also the basis and prerequisite for expanding cooperation in various fields. It is hoped that the overseas Chinese in Sweden will strengthen their contacts and exchanges with the Swedish communities and other foreigners in Sweden. They should work together to spread the Chinese culture and further promote the cultural exchanges between China and Sweden as well as between China and Europe.

Ambassador Gui extended a special welcome to the guests from the Professional Foreign Journalists Association in Sweden. He also expressed welcome and encouraged them to visit China, experience by themselves China’s development and changes in the past 40 years since the reform and opening up, and objectively and impartially report China’s great achievements in various fields.

Ms. Chen Xuefei, president of the China-Europe Cultural Association, editor-in-chief of Green Post, and chairman of the Professional Foreign Journalists Association in Sweden, said that the relationship between China and Sweden has its historical roots in the ancient Maritime Silk Road. The purpose of organizing such a cultural festival is to promote mutual understanding and trust among different communities in Sweden through cultural exchanges, to contribute to the deepening of economic, trade and cultural cooperation between China and Sweden as well as China and Europe, and, moreover, to promote peace and development in the world.

During the cultural festival, the Swedish Chinese Philharmonic Choir and other artistic organizations, and American and Russia journalists and artists in Sweden performed various programs that constitute a wonderful Chinese cultural feast to the audiences. Ambassador Gui sang My Motherland together with all the actors in a chorus, marking a successful ending of the Cultural Festival.
