Ambassador Gui Congyou Meets with Swedish Minister for Foreign Affairs Margot Wallström

On 17 November, Ambassador Gui Congyou met with the Swedish Minister for Foreign Affairs Margot Wallström at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs.

Ambassador Gui said that Sweden was the first western country to establish diplomatic relations and sign inter-governmental agreements on economic, trade and scientific cooperation with China, and also actively participated in China's reform and opening up and modernization drive. The Chinese people have a special positive sentiment toward the Swedish people. The 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China has set forth the grand goal of building a beautiful China, which provides new opportunities for China and Sweden to further develop their bilateral relations and expand practical cooperation in various areas. In the new historical context, China stands ready to increase exchanges with Sweden, expand cooperation in various fields, learn from each other's experience and work together to promote national development and prosperity.

Minister Wallström said the Swedish side was willing to work with China to actively implement the outcomes of Prime Minster Stefan Löfven's visit to China last June and enhance practical cooperation in tackling climate change, protecting environment and other areas.

They agreed to enhance collaboration on UN affairs and regional hotspot issues and jointly safeguard regional and world peace and stability.
