Chinese Embassy Spokesperson's Remarks on Comments on China by Some Swedish Senior Political Figures and Media

We noticed that recently some Swedish senior political figures and media claimed that China poses "security threats" and Chinese investment overseas is "worrying". Such claims, without any factual support, are deliberately hyped up fabrications. They are totally irresponsible.

China has never posed any threat to world peace and development. It has been an important contributor to world peace and justice and is committed to building a community with a shared future for humankind. China is the largest contributor of peacekeeping troops among the five permanent members of the UN Security Council. It actively promotes political settlement of international hotspot issues and firmly fights against terrorism. China never harms the interests of other countries. It does not want an inch of territory from any other country, and will never seek hegemony. China has no intention to and is not interested in threatening any other country.

China is firmly committed to open development and pursues mutually beneficial cooperation with all other countries with its door wide open. China's investments are carried out by Chinese companies, abide by local laws and pursue win-win outcomes. The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) aims to improve connectivity of countries along the route, and BRI cooperation is shared, open, transparent and rule-based. Some people accused China of "controlling" telecommunication networks and infrastructure, but could never present any convincing evidence. Such speculations are ill-intentioned and totally unjustified.

China's development brings about opportunities to all other countries in the world, including Sweden. It is hoped that the Swedish side will work with the Chinese side towards the same goal, and jointly promote further growth of China-Sweden friendly cooperation on the basis of equality, mutual respect and win-win cooperation.
